Well it has been sometime since my last post...I mean more than a year.  Time has just gotten away from me.

And now...tomorrow is my birthday and I cannot believe
"another one bites the dust."

My Ideal Office Space

I have recently left a corporate executive position where I had many wonderful opportunities, where the work environment, in many regards, was not ideal for me.

Ironically enough, my last blog post talks about the physical office environment, something that I think even after writing about, I took for granted, given the fact that I had been working from home...was pretty cushy.  This past year, I have worked in an office space that was originally a parking floor.  Yes, my office was converted from parking stalls.  We had no windows and no proper ventilation.

This really opened my eyes to the standards of work environments and the message that it sends to employees about their value within the company.

While travelling throughout Europe for work this past year, primarily in Germany, I was amazed at the incredible office spaces.  But more importantly the regulations that are in place to ensure that these work spaces are conducive to encouraging creativity and motivations.  Regulations such as there must be a certain amount of 'natural light'.  For me, a huge factor in being productive and feeling inspired.  A major plus, sparkling water in the water coolers!  That probably explains why Germany ranks at the top for the best places to live as an expat.  Count me in.

This topic seems to be very hot very many people recently.  I have spoken to a number of people who have mentioned issues with their work environment, well everyone except my friend who works for LinkedIn in Singapore...sleeping pods...really!  Sign me up.

Would love to hear about your take on work environments.

While I was in the Maldives, my balcony doubled as my office and i have to say I wrote some amazing pieces! This view was definitely inspirational.

I am really sad that you are going on a hiatus, but it is a must for you. I think that you need to take a vacation to go and realize how important life is. If you just keep working all year, then you will never be able to reach new heights in life, that is what I think. A vacation is what you need to get your ambition back. Always work hard, but never forget to take a break.
